GE Family Fun Night

Grandview Elementary welcomed students and families to its Fall Carnival Family Night on Nov. 21, 2024. The event included educational games, crafts, and fun activities centered around strengthening reading and math skills.

One of the activities was an estimation station, where students guessed the number of items in a jar for a chance to win a prize. In the cafeteria, Book Bingo gave families an opportunity to win age-appropriate books for their students as they worked on letter and number recognition while playing Bingo.

The Apple Bowling station challenged participants to count the number of pins they knocked down using apples or soft balls, while the Duck Pond Digits game had families "fishing" for numbered ducks to practice addition. At the Apple Toss, kids practiced their aim by tossing plastic apples into baskets. They added their total points scored to receive a prize.

The carnival also featured creative contests, including a Fall Sweater Decorating Contest, where students showed off their artistic skills by coloring images of cozy fall sweaters. The Gator Idol karaoke station brought out the performer in everyone, with students and their families belting out their favorite tunes into inflatable microphones.

At the Pumpkin STEM station, children used pipe cleaners to create pumpkins while listening to the seasonal story “Hello, Fall” by Deborah Dyson. In the spirit of creativity, families also participated in the Make and Take Bookmarks activity, coloring their own bookmarks to take home.

The fourth and fifth grade hall Reading Stations featured fun activities like Mad Libs and word searches.

For those seeking more action, the carnival offered a variety of active games, including Gaga Ball, ping pong, and a rock wall. Cornhole enthusiasts competed in friendly matches, testing their skill and accuracy.
