On October 29, 2024, El Dorado High School seniors participated in the Government Day Program, an initiative sponsored by the American Legion and supported by the Butler County Commission. This year’s event proved to be a valuable opportunity for students to gain a deeper understanding of local government operations.

Beginning on the historic courthouse steps, students engaged with members of the County Commission and learned about the critical role the County Clerk’s Office plays in elections. They explored how various government functions impact their daily lives and discovered avenues for civic involvement.

The day also featured interactive sessions with local emergency responders, including EMS personnel, the El Dorado Fire Department, and representatives from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center. These encounters provided students with firsthand insight into the vital services that ensure community safety and well-being.

Lunch was generously provided for all attendees, creating a relaxed atmosphere for students to discuss their experiences and insights.

Butler County remains a proud partner and strong advocate for the Government Day Program, recognizing its importance in shaping informed, engaged citizens. The knowledge gained during this event will empower these young adults to make meaningful contributions to the future of Butler County.
