USD 490 is excited to welcome Danny Adelhardt as the new head football coach, powerlifting coach, and weights instructor/coordinator for the 2024-2025 school year.
Adelhardt earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science with a minor in Education from Benedictine College in 1990. He completed a Master’s Degree in Education with a focus on Sports Administration at Wichita State University in 1998.
After teaching Social Studies at Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School for seven years, Adelhardt began teaching Social Studies and coaching football at Hesston High School in 1998, where he remained for the next seven years.
In 2005, Adelhardt returned to Kapaun Mt. Carmel. He continued to teach Social Studies and coach football, but added Physical Education classes to his workload.
Fifteen years later, in 2020, Adelhardt left Kapaun to teach Physical Education and coach football for two years at Garden Plain High School. He taught for one year at Wichita Northeast Magnet before leaving education to work in the private sector for a year.
“I realized my passion is coaching and teaching,” Adelhardt said. “I come from a family of educators and coaches. I’ve always respected how important education and coaching are for students’ success in life.”
Adelhardt will begin working in the district on March 5, 2024, as the Student and Family Engagement Coordinator and middle school Assistant Athletic Director for spring sports. He will transition into a high school teaching position and take the reins of the coaching positions beginning next school year.
