Congratulations to Blake Dunbar, Grandview fourth grade student, for winning third place in the Butler County Spelling Bee on Feb. 2.
The county bee lasted nine rounds total, with the champion (Carey Chesire from Andover) being named after round five with a championship word of intersperse. There were six spellers left to compete for second and third place at the beginning of round six. By round eight, it was down to two.
Blake battled two rounds against Laurel Beach from Remington before misspelling cauterize in round nine, securing his position as second runner-up.
Other USD 490 participants in the county bee were Skelly’s Talia Dickerson, Blackmore’s Riley Merchant, and El Dorado Middle School’s Sammy Schafer. They went out in rounds one, two, and three respectively.
