🧠 Our PLTW Med Detectives have been hard at work unraveling the mysteries of the nervous system, and this week marked a significant milestone in their journey! With precision and curiosity, they delved into the intricate structures of sheep brains, wrapping up their study with a hands-on dissection experience like no other. From the cerebrum to the cerebellum, they explored it all! #PartOfThePride
Just like a timeless story, when the Klausens and the Vlasics come together, magic happens! Last week in PLTW Medical Detectives, our students showcased their dissection skills by performing an autopsy on none other than a pickle! Who knew science could be so dill-lightful? Stay tuned for more exciting experiments and discoveries from our amazing students!
Patriot League Band Festival: EMS will NOT be attending the league band festival which is scheduled for tomorrow, March 27th. The EHS band is traveling out of state to a competition. EMS shares band directors with the high school, so we would not have a director for the league contest. We apologize for any confusion.
Applications are now OPEN for the EHS Extend Program for the 2024-25 school year. Available for gr. 7-12. Applications close Wed., April 24, 2024. Please apply online: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfha_uYy5nrRh93dAoAcHoMHwPdCqp50kHSq-nsX4Ag7DpTgA/viewform?usp=sf_link
3/26 EMS Spring Sports Practice: All practices will be held at EMS today after school due to the cold weather. Track and soccer will NOT travel to their normal practice locations. Please make arrangements to pick your child up at EMS after practice.

EMS Boys Tennis: The league has canceled three boys tennis meets this season to stay in compliance with the KSHSAA. We had 10 meets on our schedule, and KSHSAA allows an individual to play on only 7. The following dates have been canceled: March 28, April 8, and April 25. You may contact Nathan Sherwood, EMS AP/AD, with any questions or concerns by calling the school or by email at nasherwood@usd490.org
5TH GRADE PARENTS SAVE THE DATE.
We will have an informational meeting with 5th grade parents on April 16 @ 5:15 pm at EMS. We encourage you to bring your student and you will learn about electives offered at the middle school. Also students interested in band or orchestra will get the opportunity to try out a variety of instruments with the assistance of teachers. Hope to see you then. This date was previously on April 30 and moved to April 16th due to a conflict.

EMS cultivates a positive learning environment through its PROS initiative, emphasizing the values of being Prepared, Respectful, On-time, and Safe. Students who demonstrate these qualities have a chance to earn positive office referrals and attend PROS parties. This reflects their commitment to academic success and responsible citizenship. By encouraging these behaviors, the school promotes a culture of mutual respect, punctuality, and safety, ensuring that every student feels supported and empowered to excel both academically and socially. Following the PROS guidelines, students earn a chance to attend PROS Parties.
What an exhilarating weeks it's been for the 6th Graders and the Spikeball Tournament! We witnessed some epic battles, incredible teamwork, and tons of fun as our students showcase their skills on the court! But now, it's time to announce the winners!
A huge congratulations to Kecher and Wyatt for emerging victorious as the champions of the tournament! Your hard work, determination, and teamwork truly paid off, and you've earned this moment of glory!

A special shoutout to all the participants for bringing your A-game and making this tournament such a thrilling event! Your enthusiasm and passion for Spikeball were truly inspiring to see
7th and 8th Grade Orchestra students performed this week and achieved an outstanding accomplishment at the Patriot League Orchestra Festival! All three judges awarded our talented musicians straight 1's—the highest rating possible!
Hosted at the stunning USD 490 Performing Arts Center, our orchestra dazzled the adjudicators with their skill, dedication, and passion for music.
Let's give a round of applause to our EMS Orchestra members, conductor, and everyone who supported them on this remarkable journey. Your hard work and talent have truly shined today! #PartOfThePride
If you were in EMS this week, you probably smelled something burning. Not to worry, it was just Ms. Rush's science class. She had our amazing students embarking on a fascinating exploration into the world of thermal energy! They decided to mix things up a bit and delve into how thermal energy travels by conducting an experiment right in their own classroom!
Using some foods, they measured just how much thermal energy each item contained. It was incredible to see our students engage with the scientific process, ask thought-provoking questions, and collaborate with their peers to uncover the mysteries of thermal energy. What a great way to start spring break.
Our budding scientists are taking their learning to the streets – literally! This week, our 6th-grade science students traded textbooks for sidewalk chalk as they embarked on a colorful exploration of Earth's atmospheric layers.
With the sun shining and creativity in full bloom, our students transformed the pavement into a canvas of scientific wonder. Armed with their knowledge of the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, and exosphere, they brought these atmospheric layers to life in vibrant hues and imaginative designs.
As they sketched out the boundaries and characteristics of each layer, they not only demonstrated their understanding of Earth's complex atmosphere but also showcased their artistic talents. Passersby couldn't help but stop and admire the masterpieces taking shape before their eyes.
Through this hands-on activity, our young scientists are not only engaging with scientific concepts but also fostering a deeper connection to the world around them. Who knew learning about atmospheric layers could be so colorful and fun?
Another thrilling week of learning at EMS! Our 7th graders are on an exhilarating journey exploring the principles of physics through hands-on experimentation. Today, they dove into the world of roller coasters, discovering the fascinating concept of conservation of energy.
In their classroom-turned-thrill factory, students constructed their very own roller coasters, meticulously calculating the gravitational potential energy based on the mass and height of their creations. With every twist, turn, and loop, they witnessed the transformation of potential energy into kinetic energy, as their coasters zipped through the tracks at varying speeds.
From the initial ascent to the heart-pounding drops, our young engineers are experiencing firsthand the dynamic interplay between potential and kinetic energy. Through this immersive project, they're not only gaining a deeper understanding of physics but also honing their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
3/8 EMS optional soccer practice scheduled for 3:00 today has been canceled due to the weather. Enjoy the weekend!
3/7 EMS Spring Practice: Due to rain in the forecast for this afternoon, all spring sports practices will be held at EMS. If the weather permits, coaches may take their kids to the turf. Plan on practices ending around 5:00. #PartofthePride
