El Dorado High School is proud to introduce Taylyn Barkley as the new Head Volleyball Coach. Barkley brings a wealth of experience as both a standout athlete and a dedicated coach, and she is no stranger to the high school community, having joined EHS as a PE and Health teacher in August 2024. She also currently serves as an assistant softball coach.
A 2011 graduate of Eureka High School, Barkley went on to play two years at Fort Scott Community College (FSCC), where she made an immediate impact on the volleyball court. During her time at FSCC, she set both the Single Season and Career Assists Records, earning First Team All-Conference and First Team All-District honors. Her success continued at the University of Central Oklahoma, where she was the starting setter for the Bronchos, and she later completed her collegiate playing career at Pittsburg State University, where she had the memorable experience of playing alongside her sister.
Barkley's coaching career began in 2016 at Topeka West High School, where she served as head volleyball coach. The following year she returned to Fort Scott—this time as an Assistant Volleyball Coach at FSCC. There, she played a key role in leading the Greyhounds to a historic season, culminating in the program’s first-ever trip to Nationals. In recognition of her contributions both as a player and a coach, she was inducted into the Fort Scott Community College Hall of Fame in 2020.
In addition to her work at FSCC, Barkley also taught PE and Social Studies at Fort Scott High School and served as the Fort Scott Juniors Club Director for three years, further showcasing her commitment to youth athletics and community engagement.
“I am passionate about rebuilding women’s programs,” Barkley said. “It’s an honor to take on this role and be part of a community that supports its athletes.”
Barkley, who holds a Bachelor of Science in Education from Pittsburg State University, is eager to bring her leadership, energy, and vision to the El Dorado volleyball program. Off the court, she enjoys a busy and fulfilling life with her husband, Lance, and their two children, Brooks and Tate. With a passion for empowering young athletes, Barkley is ready to help shape the next generation of Wildcats both as players and as people.
