Operation Holiday Magic is once again spreading holiday cheer by providing Christmas gifts to USD 490 students who have been recommended by school staff based on need.
The project is made possible by anonymous donors who either give funds or purchase gifts that are specifically requested by the students. El Dorado Middle School students worked hard to support the project by collecting wrapping supplies, including paper, bows, ribbons, and tape. Their efforts resulted in an impressive 40 rolls of wrapping paper being donated for the cause.
On Dec. 16, 2024, El Dorado High School football and softball players volunteered their time to wrap all the donated gifts at a special Wrap Party. The students worked together to make sure each gift was beautifully wrapped and ready for delivery.
This year, Operation Holiday Magic is providing gifts for 15 students, ensuring that these children will wake up on Christmas morning with presents under the tree. Skelly Student Support Liaison Emma Schrag-Culbertson, the project organizer, is grateful for the generosity of the community.
"Almost all of the anonymous donors were school staff from various buildings,” said Schrag-Culbertson. “How lucky are we to have teachers and staff who just keep pouring their hearts out like that?"
Operation Holiday Magic is just one example of the kindness and community spirit that make the holiday season special in El Dorado. Thanks to everyone who contributed, this year's Christmas will be brighter for several local families.
The support from local businesses and individuals has been crucial to the success of the project. If anyone is interested in helping with next year's Operation Holiday Magic, they are encouraged to reach out to Emma Schrag-Culbertson at ejculbertson@usd490.org.
