USD 490 schools were awarded nearly $54,500 in grants from this year’s Tim Underwood Memorial Golf Tournament. Teachers can request grants each year to purchase materials, furniture, or to help fund events that enhance student learning but exceed their classroom budget.
This year’s grant awards will be used to support events such as the Blackmore Pumpkin Patch, Breakfast with Santa and the Back to School Bash. Some of the equipment that is being supported by the grants include camera lenses for the high school yearbook team, mics, lighting and sound for the high school auditorium, stand up desks, flex seating and preschool tables at the elementary schools, a drone for middle and high school athletics, and book vending machines for elementary student rewards. Other grants were awarded to purchase library subscriptions to online books and magazines, student rewards items, sensory materials, recess equipment, dramatic play materials, a sand table, motor skills materials, decodables, and math games.
The Tim Underwood Memorial Golf Tournament is an annual fundraiser facilitated by HF Sinclair and supported by their employees, vendors and contractors. This year it included more than 70 teams over two days and netted over $330,000 in grants to El Dorado and the surrounding communities, totaling $1.2 million raised by this annual event since 2018.
